My Project
Why have I been working on this project?
There has been a lack of representation of native american women in games. The main character of my game is a modern native american woman, who has to travel through the Underworld to save her boyfriend from her ex, the Death Reaper who killed her boyfriend out of jealousy.
The game is inspired by the Greek Myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, hence I tried to keep some familiar ideas of the Underworld that is described in the Greek Mythology (the character has to pay coins to the Gate keeper, the coins are based off the old ancient Greek Coins, the font of the game is Greek inspired).
Features/Assets added
I have added enemy ghosts to my level, NPCs, Boss Ghost battle, coins pick ups, health pick ups and a boulder chase. The player has to collect 10 coins to pass the Gate Ghost in order to finish the level. The player can lose health once they touch the Enemy Ghosts, but can pick up hearts throughout the level. Once the player collects 9 coins, the purple Ghost NPC will let them pass to defeat the Boss Ghost to get the last coin, which will trigger the boulder to chase the player. Once the player escapes the Boulder, they can return to the Gate Ghost and he will let them pass.
(the gif shows shows the player being blocked by the wall which doesn't happen once the player collects all the coins, I just placed her there for the purpose of the gif)
Why did I choose to revisit particular assets of mine?
I chose to revisit the background concept I created in Narrative and Stylistic Development Proposal and change it to make it look less grim. I also chose to change the overall art style of the environment. I decided to go for a similar art style to the backgrounds of Steven Universe's backgrounds. Most of the environments in Steven Universe are caves which suited well with my Underworld setting (which is meant to look cave-like). I wanted the Underworld to not look threatening but calming.
Shared Assets
I wanted to have blue flames for my spawn points in my game (representing the Underworld, showing it is not the real world). Bryn had animated a flame for his game, and I asked if I could use it for my level as I was planning on animating a flame anyway. I re-colored it to be blue and made the outline color match the colors in the level.
I wanted to also add a little box underneath/next to the Gate Ghost to suggest that the keeps the coins in his box. I asked Leighton if I could use one of his crates for my game, and re-colored it to match with the colors of the game level. I also added some diamond textures to make it match more with the environment art style.
Pause Menu, Dialogue Box
I added an exit menu, and dialogue boxes to my game level. I decided to use the diamond texture on the boxes to make them match the art style of the game more, as well as making them look rock-ish.
I have decided to add a dialogue box at the start of the level where the blue Ghost warns the player of the enemy ghosts and that the Death Reaper is expecting them.

Default Icon and Mouse Crusor
Default Icon
For the finishing touches, I added a default icon for the game which is my company's little avatar. IceCreamUnicorn. I used this avatar for my last year's kickstarter project Nova.
Mouse CrusorRegan helped me get the Mouse Crusor working, I made it the purple Ghost which I ended up not using within the level so I thought I could use it for the mouse crusor.

Jump and Fall Clean Up Animation, Running Clean Up Animation
Running Clean Up
I managed to finish the run clean up animation, and started working on the jump and fall clean up animation.
I changed some of the colors of Nina to make them look more unifying. (slightly changing the saturation) I changed the tint of yellow on the jacket, eyes, earrings and shoes, as well as changing the white on the jacket, eyes, and shorts.
Jump and Fall Clean Up Animation
I managed to finish the jump and fall animation as well.

Finished Nina Idle Cean Up Animation - Updated Boss Ghost
Nina Clean Up Idle Animation
I finished the clean up animation for Nina Idle!! :D (the colours are all wrong - the exported gif has different colours than the actual version)
Updated Boss Ghost
Regan gave me an updated script with the boulder chase and the Boss Ghost (which has lifes now). I still need to work on the timing of the boulder a bit more, and make it so it rotates more, but I am very happy with it! :)

Wellywood and Boulder
I installed all the Programs I need in on my computer in Wellington in order to work on everything... without Regan I wouldn't have been able to do it haha (only took like 3 hours...)
Boulder
I worked on the timing for the Boulder a bit more. Might get someone else to play test it since I know how the level is set up to see if the timing needs adjustments.
Backgrounds
I also worked on putting in the correct new backgrounds in the game so they look niceee.
